SARASOTA, Fla. — Sarasota County deputies shut down a busy intersection on Wednesday night.

Deputies said construction crews hit a natural gas line causing a leak.

"Frustrated, frustrated. We should have had more of a warning further back," said driver Bobbi DeBault.

The gas leak happened around 5 p.m. Deputies shut down the intersection of Fruitville Road and Honore Avenue in Sarasota. Businesses were not evacuated, but drivers were told to find an alternate route.

"I was stuck in traffic for a while. I would say at least a good 30 minutes or 40 minutes before I could start moving," said DeBault.

Deputies reopened the road around 8 p.m. TECO crews clamped off both ends of the gas line saying the leak has been mitigated at this time.

TECO officials said no customers were impacted by this gas leak.
