Popular children's retailer Claire's is under the microscope again after a non-profit, consumer watchdog group claims to have found 'high levels of asbestos' in three of the company's makeup products.
The U.S. Public Interest Research Group (PIRG), claims that they had an independent lab test 15 makeup products, each of which contains talc. Talc is a material often found in makeup products and can be contaminated with asbestos, according to the Food and Drug Administration. Four of the 15 products tested were from Claire's. The group claims to have found 'high levels of asbestos' in three of the Claire's products.

According to PIRG, lab results showed three Claire's makeup products contained asbestos:
- Claire's Contour Palette: tested for 84,746 fibers per gram of asbestos
- Claire's Shadow and Highlight Finishing Kit: tested for 61,538 fibers per gram of asbestos
- Claire's Compact Powder: tested for 153,846 fibers per gram of asbestos
In a statement to CBS News, Claire's said it "categorically denies" the test results, calling the laboratory's methods "obsolete and unreliable." Additionally, the company said it conducted its own testing and found that its products "are asbestos-free and comply with all relevant safety regulations," according to CBS.
In December, Claire's recalled over a dozen cosmetics items for possible asbestos contamination. The company later stated that its own tests detected no asbestos in the products.
